No Day Without a Line: Week 3 Review

Here we are at the end of week 3! It's become a fascinating challenge to find something different to draw/paint every day. And it's an even bigger challenge to force myself to use a wide variety of subjects (instead of just focusing on the things that come easily to me...I could happily create 365 works of art this year based on fruits and vegetables but it would probably get a bit boring for everyone else!)

"Sycamore" (Day 14) - There's a massive ancient sycamore tree in our back yard. I love its thick, gnarled, crooked limbs, its speckled, peeling bark, and its gigantic fan-like leaves.

"Cradled" (Day 15) - I love the juxtaposition of the organic, earthy fragility of the eggs against the man-made, industrial angularity of their carton.

"Playthings IV" (Day 16) - My almost two-year-old son drew with regular magic markers for the first time on Wednesday and he immediately became obsessed with them. It makes me so happy when we work on art together.

"Winter Share" (Day 17) - We belong to a CSA and picked up one of our winter share vegetable boxes last week. It's such a nice treat getting 30 pounds of local veggies in the middle of winter!

"January Skies" (Day 18) - I feel like I've managed to witness a flabbergastingly beautiful sunrise or sunset (or both) almost every day so far this month.

"Ornamental" (Day 19) - There are heads of ornamental cabbages planted all around our town these days (because they're hearty enough to handle the winter weather). I snapped a picture of one during a walk yesterday and knew I had to draw/paint it. I simply couldn't resist those red veins, ruffled edges and folded foliage.

"Cloudscape" (Day 20) - I gave myself permission to be more loose and abstract with this one. I've always enjoyed the image of straight, angular power lines crisscrossing against a backdrop off fluffy cotton-ball clouds.

Thanks again for all of the great feedback this week! I'd love to hear from you if you have any suggestions about things I should draw and paint during the coming weeks.
