No Day WIthout a Line: Week 1 Review

I'm so excited that I managed to create a work of art every day for the first week of the year. It wasn't easy. There were days when I had no idea what to draw/paint. Sure, I could have found inspiration in my large collection of reference photos I've taken in the past, but I realized that finding something NEW to inspire me every day is an important part of this project.
There were nights when all I wanted to do was curl up on the couch and watch old episodes of "Prison Break" while drooling over fancy-pants typography pins on Pinterest, but I forced myself to create art instead. It was worth it.
Here's a more detailed look at the 6 pieces I create this week, including a little story about each one of them:
"Material Muse" - Sometimes my art supplies themselves can be my biggest source of inspiration.
"Winter Sunset" - I think I love sunsets in the winter most of all....the explosion of colors in the sky contrasts amazingly with the stark landscape, the limbs of trees become silhouetted against splashes of crimson and goldenrod and indigo.
"Signs of Life" - I often get inspiration for my art from things in nature, which can be pretty difficult in the winter. These Norway Spruce greens and cones reminded me that even in the dead of winter, there are still signs of life.
"Tea for One" - My brother-in-law and his girlfriend gave us this beautiful Tiffany & Co. tea set for our wedding three-and-a-half years ago. And this is the first time I've actually used it (it's been on display in our kitchen but I've been afraid to use it because I might break it). I'm so glad that working on this series of paintings inspired me to finally put this tea set to use.
"Playthings I" - It sometimes seems like every flat surface in our apartment is covered in my son Dylan's toys. I think I'll do a series of watercolors based on his toys throughout the year and then hang framed prints of them in his bedroom.
"Hazel" - Getting the reference photo for this was pretty darn husband had to use a macro lense attached to my iPhone and practically poke me in the eye to take the picture. I love my husband.
Thanks to all of you out there who have given my positive feedback about this project so've definitely inspired me to keep going! Looking forward to starting week 2 tomorrow!
