Portrait of the Artist: Nulla Dies Sine Linea

Nulla Dies Sine Linea - a phrase that the Roman historian Pliny the Elder attributed to the ancient Greek painter Apelles. It can be roughly translated to "not a day without a line drawn," (or as I've heard other artists say "no day without a line.")

This ancient phrase is the inspiration for my one New Year's resolution as an artist - I'm going to try my best to pick up my pencils or pens or paintbrushes every day, even if it's just for 15 minutes. I'll be creating a series of corresponding "No Day Without a Line," blog posts, one a day, over the course of the next year.

Of course I have bigger dreams and goals as an artist over the course of 2013, but none of them can be accomplished if I don't start to work on my art EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I'd love to hear any art-related New Year's resolutions you might have! Happy New Year!
