No Day Without a Line: Week 2 Review

I honestly can't believe I managed to create art every day this week. First my husband was sick, then my 21-month-old old son, and finally I got sick. It was a week of tissues and cough drops and soup and way too much TV watching in our house. It was a week when I felt exhausted and completely uninspired, but I forced myself to do the work, and boy am I glad that I did.

"Winter Sunrise" (Day 7) - This sunrise was one of the first things I saw on Monday morning. I love that my kitchen windows face the east so I can watch the sunrise each morning while making breakfast and coffee. It's the perfect way to start each day.

"Quartet" (Day 8) - I'll probably create a lot of art based on produce throughout the course of the year. It's my favorite subject matter...I never cease to be amazed at the variety of forms, colors, and textures you can find in fruits and vegetables.

"The Sun Inside" (Day 9) - When I cut open an orange in wintertime it feels like I'm releasing a bit of sunshine into the world - the vibrant colors, the sweet juiciness, the remarkable smell that lingers on my fingers long after the orange has been consumed.

"Playthings II" (Day 10) - Last week I created the first picture in a series based on my son's toys. I love the geometric simplicity and bold colors of these wooden train cars.

"Grapes of Mirth" (Day 11) - I never cared much for grapes before my son was born. But they're one of his favorite foods in the world...he giggles with pure joy every time I place a plate of cut up grapes in front of him. So now the mere sight of this fruit makes me grin.

"Frivolity" (Day 12) - Sometimes when I'm taking off my jewelry at the end of the day I pause to wonder at the excess of it all. Even though I don't own any expensive jewelry besides my engagement ring, I can't help but marvel at the shiny pile of stone and plastic and metal and glass and think of just how luxurious it is.

"Playthings III" (Day 13) - I love how absurd my son's plastic play food is...why in the world is the strawberry almost as big as the eggplant?

I want to thank all of you who have been giving me such great feedback about this definitely kept me going this week when I was sick and had no interest in creating anything. I'm really excited to start week 3 tomorrow!
